What is Sojourn?
Sojourn is the student newspaper of South Orangetown Middle School. This paperless version, just over one year old, is growing, changing and evolving with every publication. This forum exists to serve the student community. You can be both staff and audience, both producer and consumer of news, information, art and ideas.
Why is the paper called "Sojourn"?
A sojourn is a brief stay, or short-lived residency, and a sojourner is one who preaches truths. Although some classes may seem to drag on forever, and some days or weeks seem endless, adults have probably recalled their middle school years as a fleeting time in their lives. May your sojourn at SOMS be a pleasant journey of discovering your truths.
What does Sojourn do for you?
Sojourn aims to be "The Voice of SOMS", allowing you to state your concerns or show your talents, and to listen to what's on the mind of your classmates and members of the SOMS community. You may find it entertaining, thought-provoking or irritating.
What can you do for Sojourn?
You are welcome to contribute articles about your school, community, nation or the world. Articles on topics that interest you are likely to be of interest to other students: homework, food, sports, clubs, fitness, fashion, relationships, politics, environment, travel, books, movies, entertainment. Poetry and prose are welcome, as are artworks and photographs. Computer literate students are invited to help with the layout and editing.
We meet one Thursday each month in the computer lab, but you may contribute work without attending meetings.
Articles may be emailed to Mrs. DiTuri at ddituri@socsd.org
Art work and photos go to Mrs. Garguilo kgarguilo@socsd.org
