It is a fact that this fall the flu is expected to reappear in our community. At the present time, the South Orangetown Central School District Health Services has been directed by the New York State Department of Health and the Center for Disease Control to participate in daily reporting of illness and absence of both students and staff.

To help facilitate this process, we are requesting that you call your child’s school for illness and absence, and when you call to report, you list all symptoms your child is exhibiting, for example: fever; fever/ stomach; fever /cough; sore throat/ fever. Also, please inform the school of any other symptoms, as well as physician confirmed diagnosis of strep throat, flu, and/or intestinal virus.

If you call and you are unable to speak to a staff member, please leave a message on voice mail. Remember to list all symptoms, not just “sick” as the reason for absence. We thank you for your cooperation and assistance in this matter.

Sincerely,

Riva Fisher, RN
Judy Flagg, RN
Maggie Keane, RN
Gail McNiff, RN
